Carl R. Zukosky Sr.

Tuesday, November 19, 1935Sunday, September 16, 2018

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, electrician, Carl R. “Zuk” Zukosky, Sr., finally retired after completing his last big project. The next day he went on vacation with his wife. However, the Lord called at the last minute and, of course, Carl took the job on Sunday, September 16th.

Since 1975 Carl has been performing electrical work throughout the Wyoming Valley and beyond.  He was happy making friends with all his clients! From Avoca to Nanticoke, there was hardly a street that did not have a house in which he worked. For years he worked with his sons, Carl and Steven, and then, his grandchildren, Gregory, Morgan, and AJ. Traveling around Europe, the United States, and the Caribbean with his wife was his most recent pastime.

Carl was born on Shoemaker Street in Swoyersville and attended Swoyersville schools.  From 1955 to 1958, he served in the United States Army in France during the Korean War. Following that, he worked many years for Common and Company, and then worked for Wilkes College while taking courses to become an electrician, and graduated from West Side Vo-Tech.  From Wilkes College and a five year stint in the union, he went on to work for Luzerne County as the head electrician for the county, from where he later retired. He continued doing electrical work for many people throughout the valley, accompanied by his sons and grandchildren.

A faithful Catholic, Carl was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where he served in many offices of the Holy Name Society, serving as its final President when the church closed its doors in 2012. Following the closing of his church, Carl became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville. For many years, Carl, accompanied by his Sons and Grandchildren, wired the Bazaars for both Saint Mary’s Church and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Zukosky Sr. and Helen (Zim) Zukosky; his brother, Edward Zukosky Jr.; and his sisters, Geraldine Reilly and Roberta Steadele.

Carl will be greatly and sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Mary T. (Buzinki) Zukosky; his sons, Carl R. Zukosky Jr., and his wife, Maureen, Levittown; and Steven Zukosky, Palmerton; his grandchildren, Gregory, Morgan, and AJ Zukosky; his brothers, Ronald Zukosky, Wyoming; and Daniel Zukosky, Franklin Township; his sister, Gloria Kush, Luzerne; as well as his many extended family and friends.
