David Davies

Friday, May 16, 1952Tuesday, September 25, 2018

On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, David Davies, loving husband, father of six children and “Poppy” to fourteen grandchildren, passed away at the age of 66 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.

David was born on May 16, 1952 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to the late William and Ann (Edwards) Davies. He was a proud Grenadier, graduating from G.A.R. Memorial High School with the class of 1970. He briefly attended Penn State University, Lehman Campus, before embarking on a long, remarkable career as a master carpenter spanning nearly fifty years.

On August 30, 1974, David married the true love of his life, Della “Dolly” C. (Jones) Davies. Together, David, one of thirteen siblings, and Della, one of twelve, settled in the Rolling Mill Hill neighborhood where they raised their own big, happy family.

Throughout his life, with a great sense of humility, David quietly carried the reputation of a uniquely skilled, reliable and unmistakably-talented home builder. His vast and recognizable body of work is most evident today in many homes throughout the Wyoming Valley. And while a stern sense of modesty often prevailed in his conversations, David occasionally remarked that safe, happy families making homes of the houses his tired hands had built was the true measure of his success.

David brought his talent and indistinguishable work ethic to various construction companies throughout Northeastern PA. He was most noticeably proud, however, of his work over the last two decades of his career with his dearest friend, Steven L. Lloyd. Together, David and Steven pushed each other to their creative limits and enjoyed what both men would cite as their best years.

Outside of work and family, David enjoyed nothing more than the tranquility of a cool stream and the slight nibble of a Brook Trout on the end of his line. He was an avid deer hunter, a self-taught guitar player and an Eagles and Nittany Lions fan through and through.

Of all David’s accomplishments, his proudest moments came in watching his boys become men and his daughters, strong young women. He supervised countless newlywed renovation projects and begrudgingly lost many tools along the way.

And though it was often a tedious undertaking, for the stoic David and his darling Della, their amazing forty four years together marked a journey filled with love, laughter, kindness, beautiful, chubby babies, highs, lows, victories – minute and massive, and the effervescent joy of a great, big family.

In addition to his parents, William and Ann Davies, David was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Davies.

He is survived by his wife, Della; his six children, Jennifer Sperrazza and her husband Alex, David and his wife Kristi, Rhian and his wife Melissa, Jonathan and his wife Shannon, Sean and his wife Shae, and Tara and her fiance’ Jacob, and his fourteen grandchildren, Madyson, Ireland, Tristan, Isabelle, Morghan, Brooke, Aidan, Koleton, Aubrey, Mia, Noah, Samuel, River and Gwen.

David is also survived by his brothers, Wayne, Bill, Paul and Rick, and his sisters Joyce, Phyllis, Janice, Sandy, Ann, Jean and Linda; as well as many loving brothers and sisters-in-law and several generations of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend David’s funeral service which will begin on Monday, October 01, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.

Interment will follow in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township.
