Wednesday, September 7, 1949Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Carol Laskaris, 69, of Swoyersville, passed into the hands of the Lord in the afternoon on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on September 07, 1949, in Kingston, Carol was the daughter of the late George N. Laskaris and Josephine Kielan Laskaris.

A lifetime resident of Swoyersville, Carol attended Swoyersville schools and was a member of the first graduating class of Wyoming Valley West High School in 1967.

Prior to her retirement, Carol had been employed for ten years by the Greenwald Berk Agency in Kingston and was committed to providing clients with the highest quality insurance services as a customer service representative. She also was employed by the Martin D. Popky Agency in Kingston, and was a member of the Insurance Women of Wyoming Valley, serving as its Past President.

A devout Catholic, Carol was a lifelong member of the former Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, Swoyersville, where as a young woman she held membership with the church’s Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. Following the consolidation of her church, she became a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.

A woman of many enjoyments, Carol traveled with family and friends visiting places like Greece and Mexico, and loved being entertained at Broadway shows in both New York City and Wilkes-Barre. She took great pleasure in the simple tasks of life, such as baking delicious breads and cookies, cooking, vegetable gardening, and caring for her parents, family and home. She had a talent for handmade crafts including refinished furniture, ceramics, and knitting creating many beautiful blankets, slippers and handmade items that she generously shared with so many.  In recent years her greatest joy was spending time with grandnephews, Stone, Luca and Rylan.

In 2009 Carol suffered the loss of her left leg due to complications of diabetes, yet through strength and determination she moved forward, living a full and vibrant life.  Her success was due to caring people who transformed her home into her place of comfort and peace – Pat Quinn shared her faith and offered assistance with day to day tasks; Kevin Van Why from the Wilkes-Barre Amputee Group from which Carol received support, information and friendship from the members of the Group; Dr. Bill Boyle who cared for Carol, and the various doctors whom each shared their talents. Carol was blessed to have family, friends, and professionals assist her in her quest to live independently in her home.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her only brother, Stanley Laskaris, who passed away in 2010 and his wife, Cathy whom while still living but suffered the death of their relationship in 2010.

Carol is survived by her nephew, Nicholas J. Laskaris and his wife, Casey, and their two sons, Luca and Rylan; her niece, Chrystal and her son, Stone Carolus; and cousins, Wesley and Susan Rhiel, Gahanna, Ohio; Joe and JoAnna Dombroski, New Kent, Virginia; Ken and Diane Rhiel, Luzerne; Bob and Maryann Pepsis, Swoyersville; Joe and Yazmyne Rhiel, Suffolk, Virginia; Joe and Carol Marut, Langhorne; Stan and Marie Marut, Trenton, New Jersey; and the late George Madar and his wife, Susan Madar, Ewing, New Jersey; along with all of their children and grandchildren.
