John P. Walsh, 90, a resident of Kingston, entered into eternal life on Thursday morning, July 09, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
His beloved wife was the late Rose Marie H. (Rowlands) Walsh, who passed away on February 14, 2011. Together, John and Rose Marie shared 57 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on October 30, 1929, in Plymouth, John was one of seven children born to the late Joseph and Julia (Murray) Washcalus.
Raised in Plymouth, John was a graduate of the former Saint Vincent’s High School, Plymouth, serving as his class president.
A United States Air Force veteran, John honorably served his country for four years during the Korean War as a radio mechanic and special facsimile operator. Upon his honorable discharge on December 14, 1951, John attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Following his military service, John went on to attend Penn State College, now Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre, where he studied electrical engineering.
John went on to establish his family business, the former Central Air and Heating Company, Inc., Kingston, operating the business for over 50 years prior to his retirement.
A faithful Catholic, John was a proud member of Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Kingston, and for many years, he served as a Minister of the Holy Eucharist, bringing Holy Communion to his fellow parishioners and friends who were unable to attend Mass.
John was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 302, Wilkes-Barre, and a 4th Degree member of the Bishop William J. Hafey, Assembly 925, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the American Legion, Black Diamond Post 395, Kingston; the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 283, Kingston; and the Homebuilders Association of NEPA. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Fox Hill Country Club, Exeter, and when his son was young, he served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 154, Kingston.
Throughout their years together, John and Rose Marie loved to travel, and they were blessed to visit countless places all over the world. John, being an avid outdoorsman, greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always looked forward to fishing and boating on Lake Ontairo; spending time at his cabin in Forkston; and taking his family on vacations to Avalon, New Jersey. He also enjoyed bowling, and being the “family ham maker” for all the holidays and special occasions.
John will be remembered for the great pride he had for his Irish heritage, and for the love and devotion he had for his family. Although his presence will be deeply missed, there is much joy in knowing he is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife and all his loved ones who had gone before him.
In addition to his parents, Joseph and Julia Washcalus, and his wife, Rose Marie, John was preceded in death by his infant grandson, Kristopher Walsh; his brothers, Joseph Washcalus, Thomas Walsh, and Gerald Washcalus; his sisters, infant Kathleen Washcalus, Mary Rondina, and Helen Ziller.
