Karen J. Ziegler, 73, a resident of Swoyersville, passed into eternal life on Sunday morning, August 20, 2023, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Her loving husband is Deacon Mr. John B. “Jack” Ziegler. Together, Jack and Karen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 30th.
Born on September 06, 1949, in Wilkes-Barre, Karen was one of two children born to the late Joseph Sarneski and Jean Samborek Sarneski.
Raised in Wilkes-Barre, Karen was a graduate of the former Marymount High School, Class of 1967. Following high school, she went on to further her education at College Misericordia, now Misericordia University, where, in 1971, she acquired her Bachelors Degree in Mathematics. Later, she went on to attend Wilkes University, where, in 2001, she acquired her Masters Degree in Educational Technology.
Through most of her career as an educator, Karen was employed by the Diocese of Scranton. Early in her career, she taught at the former Sacred Heart Grade School, Luzerne, eventually moving on to the former Seton Catholic High School, Pittston, where she taught for many years and served as chair of the Mathematics Department. Prior to her retirement, she taught at Holy Redeemer High School, Wilkes-Barre.
A woman of great faith, Karen was actively involved with various parishes over the years, and, in more recent years, was a devout member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Swoyersville.
In addition to her parents, Joseph and Jean Sarneski, Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Joseph Sarneski.
In addition to her husband, Jack, Karen is survived by her daughter, Kelly Ann Ziegler, Swoyersville; as well her in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Karen’s viewing which will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 4 to 6 PM, in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville.
All are invited to attend Karen’s Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 10:00 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father Joseph J. Pisaneschi, her Pastor, officiating. All those attending the Funeral Mass are asked to assemble directly at the church.
Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Swoyersville.
