On Sunday afternoon, June 09, 2024, Rose Marie Kayrish, 94, a longtime resident of Swoyersville, and most recently a resident of The Village at Greenbriar Assisted Living, Dallas, returned to her Lord peacefully in her sleep at Allied Services Hospice Center, the former Little Flower Manor Convent, Wilkes-Barre.
Her beloved husband was the late Michael Francis Kayrish Sr., who passed away on May 04, 2016, after sharing 58 beautiful years of marriage.
Born on April 17, 1930, in Ashley, Rose Marie was one of two children born to the late Joseph C. Murray and Rose Anne Devins Murray.
Spending her childhood in Mountain Top, her family eventually returned to Ashley where Rose attended the former Saint Leo the Great High School as a member of its 1948 graduating class.
Following their marriage, Michael and Rose lived for some years in Harrisburg where Rose was employed by the Bell Telephone Company until the birth of their first child, Michael Jr. Eventually returning to the Wyoming Valley, the family settled in Swoyersville, where Rose spent the rest of her life as a dedicated homemaker.
A faithful and devout Roman Catholic, Rose was a member of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, holding membership with its Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She, along with her husband, participated regularly in church events and spent many hours volunteering at the annual parish festival, most notably at the potato pancake stand. Rose also greatly enjoyed helping with the Christian Mothers annual rummage sale, as well as assisting with the parish’s former Quilt Bingo’s.
Rose was a passionate pro-life advocate! She was a member of the Pennsylvanians for Human Life, Wyoming Valley Chapter, Wilkes-Barre, serving as its past secretary of over 25 years and also as chairwoman of its annual Mother’s Day Carnation Sale fundraiser for several years.
Known for her great sense of style, Rose regularly peppered her wardrobe with animal prints and sparkles – she was always dressed impeccably. She was also known for her love of dancing; tending to her lawn and flower garden; her Sunday dinners of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, and homemade rice pudding; and her nightly glass of port wine.
Rose’s family was the cornerstone of her life and she cherished every moment she shared with her loved ones. Her grandchildren held a special place in heart and they will forever remember her constant presence in their lives, as well as her always being a great sport when it came to playing every game with them as children.
Rose will be remembered as a softspoken woman of faith with a kind heart. A true Irish Rose, she made everyone she encountered in life feel welcome – certainly her welcome in the Kingdom of Heaven was received with the same warmth and kindness she embodied in life.
In addition to her parents, Joseph and Rose Anne Murray, and her husband, Michael, Rose was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Joseph A. Murray; her devoted son-in-law, Jonathan Cohen; and her nephew, John “Sonny” Kayrish.
Left to cherish Rose’s memory are her five children, Michael Francis Kayrish Jr. and his wife, Bernadette, Swoyersville; Mary Decowski and her husband, Gary, Huntington Mills; Ann Kayrish Cohen, Chevy Chase, Maryland; Kathryn Sayers and her husband Thomas, Bokeelia, Florida; Rosalie Frankel and her husband, Neil, Pleasant Garden, North Carolina; her eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; her beloved sister-in-law, Carrie Marie Salvo Murray, Dallas; her nieces, Trish Savitsky and Rose Marie Free; her nephew, Joseph Murray; as well as her numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff at The Village at Greenbriar for the outstanding care they bestowed upon Rose throughout the two years she resided there. They would like to also thank the nurses and staff at Allied Services Hospice Center for all they did to ensure Rose’s final days were full of peace and comfort.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral which will be conducted on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM, from the Wroblewski Funeral Home, Inc., 1442 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM in Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes Street, Swoyersville, with the Reverend Father John J. Chmil, her Pastor, officiating.
The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will recite the Rosary on Monday morning at 9:30 AM, in the church.
